Would you have known?

The participants of the integration course at the ISE Language and Vocational Training Center in Amberg mastered the hurdles of German grammar with flying colors. They proudly hold the certificate in their hands, which certifies that they can independently present their concerns to the doctor or the authorities, understand everyday written information or write an application.

No problem, do you think? Correct. But in the seventh and final course section, the orientation course, even native speakers start to ponder. Hand on heart, would you have known straight away who elects the Federal Chancellor in Germany or what January 27th commemorates as an official day of remembrance in Germany, not to mention the question of what is not part of the tasks of the German Bundestag?

33 questions from a catalog of 310 questions about the German legal system, history and culture as well as values that are important in Germany, for example religious freedom, tolerance and equality, are asked in the “Life in Germany” test, at least 15 of which must be answered correctly.

The great interest in these topics during lessons is reflected in the results of the orientation test. All participants passed with more than 27 points, some even with the maximum score of 33.

This is how our new citizens are now starting their real lives in Germany. The teachers and the entire ISE team wish you luck and success.
