Red pencil?

It is an open secret that qualified employees are important for their respective employers and that targeted further training in individual subject areas also represents a financial advantage for companies in the medium to long term. Unfortunately, especially in economically difficult times, many employers turn their backs on personnel development in order to be able to use their financial resources elsewhere. “You know, if funds are needed to maintain business operations, this obviously has priority…” (HR manager of a company Raum AS).

Of course, companies need well-qualified staff at all levels in order to remain competitive in the future. This is exactly where the dilemma lies. On the one hand, during the crisis, all funds are needed to secure jobs and further training is limited to the bare minimum or even completely canceled. Totally understandable. Every employee would probably be offended if, on the one hand, there was talk of layoffs, a social plan, termination agreements or the like, and on the other hand, expensive training courses were taking place. What should companies do now? On the other hand, of course, competition continues during the crisis, on the back burner, but it continues. And what towards the end of the crisis, after the crisis? Competition will probably intensify here. Then the companies that have the best team will probably get back to full speed the fastest. To do this, you could, and should actually, continue to train your staff.

Short-time work

The number of companies that are on short-time work is very high throughout Germany. This is also the case in the Upper Palatinate. The government launched this instrument together with the Federal Employment Agency to prevent large-scale waves of layoffs in order to preserve jobs. Unfortunately, this plan does not work for all companies, as the layoffs at Amberger Grammer AG and BHS in Weiherhammer show. The Federal Employment Agency has faced the economic crisis and continues to support companies. This created new opportunities for companies in short-time work. Employees affected by short-time work can be trained in certified courses at certified training providers. At the same time, the WeGebAU program, which was launched in 2007, was made accessible to a larger group of people. Which training can be funded at what level and under what conditions depends on various factors that are beyond the scope of this article. But:
