The lecturers at the ISE Language and Vocational Training Center have conducted application training in countless training courses. The cover letter is the “door opener” and should definitely be individualized and arouse the interest of the personnel decision maker. As an applicant, you should definitely keep the following basic points in mind when writing a cover letter.

ISE checklist for application letters

  • Do I write to a specific contact person?
  • Does the subject include the position I'm applying for?
  • Have I paid attention to the correct, formal structure of the cover letter?
  • Has a third party checked my cover letter for spelling and comprehensibility?
  • Can my main personal and professional strengths be found at the top of the cover letter and can a personnel decision-maker recognize them with just a few glances?
  • Do I address all the essential requirements of the job advertisement in my cover letter and do I establish a connection to the company?
  • Have I been able to demonstrate the required soft skills with examples?
  • Is it clear what benefit the company would have from my cooperation?
  • Have I avoided listing or summarizing stations from my CV?
  • If requested: have I stated my salary expectations?
  • Have I concentrated on the essentials, formulated them specifically and not extensively described requirements that are self-evident for the position?
  • Does my cover letter end with a request for a personal interview?
