Good opportunities in the nursing sector

Amberg (usc). For 15 men and women, the certificate that they had completed the course to become a nursing assistant or carer for people with dementia was probably the best Christmas present they could give themselves. They had almost nine months of cramming so that they could face new professional challenges after their qualification course at the ISE language and vocational training center in Amberg.

The “Nursing qualification for job seekers” course began on April 1st and ended in December. The course was funded with money from the European Social Fund. The co-financing was provided by the Amberg job center. The project was managed by Peter Blendowski, graduate economist and managing director of the ISE training institute.

With the knowledge and skills they have now acquired, the course participants were able to take up employment subject to social insurance contributions or to start a three- or one-year training course to become a geriatric nurse or nursing assistant (elderly care) at a vocational school. According to course leader Andrea Gaßner, there are currently three classes in the BSE geriatric care school, two of which are three-year classes for prospective geriatric nurses and one-year classes for nursing assistants in geriatric care

Three of the course participants moved to the ISE vocational school in September for further training to become geriatric nursing assistants or geriatric nurses. Some graduates already have an employment contract or a firm commitment to employment that is subject to social insurance contributions. For most of the participants, retirement homes and social institutions will decide whether to hire them in January 2014.

At the certificate award ceremony, both ISE managing director Peter Blendowski and Rainer Liermann, team leader for employment placement at the job center, emphasized that, in view of demographic change, the course graduates had good career prospects, for example in nursing homes or in outpatient care, and could finally finance their own living.

According to Blendowski and Liermann, they were and are receiving intensive support when applying for a position in the nursing assistant sector or as carers. After the course, both offered those who were still looking further support in finding work. Specifically, participants can, for example, come to the ISE at a fixed weekly appointment and get help there in compiling application documents and, of course, in finding the right job. The internal employment agent at the ISE language and vocational training center, Helmut Albrecht, will also provide support with job placement.

In the past 25 years of its existence, over 17,000 participants in the ISE language and vocational training center have received the best possible training and professional integration in various courses, qualifications, retraining, support and placement measures.
